What does a free team password manager need to do?
A free team password manager has to solve the everyday sharing problem, not just store one person’s passwords. In practice that means:
- One place for shared logins instead of passwords pasted into WhatsApp, Slack, email or a spreadsheet.
- Access levels, so an intern or contractor can sign in without seeing or copying the password.
- Autofill that works on real sign-in pages, including the email-first, password-second kind.
- 2FA codes for shared accounts, so the team isn’t waiting on one person’s phone.
- Clean offboarding: remove a leaver in minutes and know exactly which passwords to change.
If a free plan stops at personal use, it doesn’t solve the team problem. Check each vendor’s plan page for what its free tier covers; our comparison lists the main options.

Set up your team
- Add the free BobWork Vault Chrome extension and create an account.
- Import your passwords from a CSV, or let the extension save logins as you sign in.
- Group shared logins into folders, for example one per team or per client.
- Invite teammates by email (Settings › Team › Invite teammate) and pick View, Edit or Login only for each folder or password.
- When someone leaves, run guided offboarding to remove their access and get the list of passwords to change.
Is a free password manager safe for a team?
A free password manager is safe when it is zero-knowledge, and BobWork Vault is: each item is encrypted in your browser with AES-256-GCM, each item key is wrapped for each teammate with P-256 ECDH, and the server stores ciphertext only. New devices need an emailed code as well as the master password. How the encryption works.

Questions
Is BobWork Vault really free for teams?
Yes. Personal use and team sharing are free, including shared folders, access levels, autofill, 2FA codes and offboarding.
What is the best free password manager for a small team?
Pick one that is zero-knowledge, includes sharing with access levels on the free plan, autofills in the browsers you use and makes offboarding quick. BobWork Vault meets all four; test two or three tools with your real logins.
Can a teammate use a login without seeing the password?
Yes. Choose Login only: the Chrome extension fills the password for them but never shows or copies it.
What happens when someone leaves the team?
Guided offboarding removes their access, hands over what they owned, re-keys the remaining shared items and builds a checklist of passwords to change on each site.
Can we move from our current password manager?
Yes. Import a CSV from Chrome, Zoho Vault, 1Password, Bitwarden, LastPass or any CSV. The file is read and encrypted in your browser and duplicates are skipped.
